Mobile GIS Data Management Strategy

I provided consulting services through GeoConnects, LLC to design and implement a mobile GIS data management strategy for Sustainable Solutions, LLC. The system included ArcPad and ArcGIS Desktop software, a Trimble YUMA mobile GPS device, and a central data repository.

LandServer Web Application
I provided consulting services through GeoConnects, LLC  to help guide the implementation of the geospatial data management and  workflows, analysis and system infrastructure for the web application www.landserver.org.

The Global Adaptation Atlas Web Application
I provided consulting services through GeoConnects, LLC by advising on geospatial data management best practices and workflows for creating the web map services for the web application www.adaptationatlas.org.

Ecosystems of the Andes Amazon Map
I participated in a workshop in Iquitos, Peru with GIS professionals from Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia to compile and reconcile a region wide ecosystem dataset for the Andes Amazon.  From their efforts and resulting dataset, I created a poster map.

Protected Areas Database of the United States
I contributed to the Technical Working Group of the PAD-US to develop technical specifications and standards upon which a more efficient and effective national protected areas database could be based.

LandScope America Wall Map
I supported the National Geographic Society with GIS data and analysis to produce the LandScope Wall Map.

LandScope America Web Application
For two years, I was responsible for designing, implementing and integrating the GIS components of the web application,     www.landscope.org, including, spatial data infrastructure design and maintenance, data acquisition and metadata creation, content tracking and job task management, GIS analysis and cartography, web map service publishing, and documentation of procedures and best practices.

NatureServe Enterprise GIS
I advanced the implementation of NatureServe’s geospatial data infrastructure framework by acquiring and configuring a central geospatial data repository and creating an intranet site for sharing GIS resources and knowledge.

Effective Conservation Assessment Poster Map
I created this poster map to highlight TNC’s Effective Conservation Assessment approach using the results of the Priorities for Coastal and Marine Conservation in South America analysis.  I displayed the poster at the ESRI UC Map Gallery.

Priorities for Coastal and Marine Conservation in South America
I created the maps for a report titled “Priorities for Coastal and Marine Conservation in South America.”  I designed and managed a geospatial database for marine conservation information, conducted an analysis to determine priority conservation areas for a South American ecoregional assessment, and created the maps for the publication.

TNC Conservation Learning Conference Maps
These maps were created to demonstrate conservation science, GIS and mapping to TNC staff and were on display during a three day conference.  I interviewed staff scientists and GIS staff to select appropriate datasets and then designed the cartography and created the maps.

TNC GIS Users and GIS Software License Tracking Database
This Access database was created to track, support and report on GIS users and GIS software licenses for over 800 staff at The Nature Conservancy and partner organizations.  I created, updated, maintained and used this database over a three year period to support the Enterprise GIS Program at TNC.

Identifying Commercial Imagery Application
This ArcReader application was created to allow the user to view the coverage and a preview of available commercial satellite imagery within the extent of the Southeast Asia Tsunami.  It was distributed to TNC staff and made available to others through the Society for Conservation GIS Newsletter.

Cascade Dialogues Maps
These maps were created for the Cascade Dialogues project, a four-county effort in Washington State of civic engagement focused on the future of the region's natural lands.  I was an intern at CommEn Space, working under the supervision of Christopher Walter, who helped design the cartography.

Washington Database of Protected Areas
This database was created by many people and was being maintained and improved while I was an intern at CommEn Space in Seattle, WA.  I helped to standardize and clean up the attribute data and created print maps from various working versions of the shapefile.

Priority Conservation Analysis Presentation
This presentation was my final project to complete my Certificate in GIS at the University of California, Riverside Extension.  I chose to focus on identifying conservation priority areas for spotted owl habitat.  The availability of wilderness roadless areas data allowed me to keep the analysis clear and simple, great for the assignment but a little basic for the real world.
